EN • It’s this time of the year again! The “fifth season” is about to start. The Oktoberfest is round the corner and for those of you who still have it on their bucket list, it might be your chance to experience this unique event.
Since I recently moved to Barcelona I am super sad that I won’t have the chance to experience the Oktoberfest this year. Nevertheless, I wanted to share a quick guide on the Oktoberfest for those of you who plan on going. Also I wanted to share all the pictures of last year with you 😉
DE • Es ist mal wieder Zeit! Das Oktoberfest steht vor der Tür. Egal ob ihr “Neuling” oder “Wiederholungstäter” seid, ich bin sicher, dass ihr auch dieses Jahr viel Spaß auf den Wiesen haben werdet.
Da ich kürzlich nach Barcelona gezogen bin und hier noch alle Hände voll zu tun habe, um richtig Fuß zu fassen, schaffe ich es dieses Jahr leider nicht auf die Wiesen. Trotzdem möchte ich die Gelegenheit nicht verpassen, einen kleinen “Wiesenführer” zu schreiben und natürlich meine tollen Bilder vom letzten Jahr zu posten.

EN • Despite living in Barvaria for all my life, I remember that I was refusing the Oktoberfest for a long time. I always had the feeling that it would be way too touristy, crowded and that it wouldn’t be fun with so many people around. Well, I was proved wrong – it’s sooooo much fun!!
DE • Obwohl ich in Bayern aufgewachsen bin, habe ich mich echt lange dagegen gewehrt, aufs Oktoberfest zu gehen. Ich hatte früher immer das Gefühl, dass die Wiesen viel zu touristischer sind und man in so einer großen Menschenmenge gar keinen Spaß haben kann. Nun ja, ich habe mich getäuscht – es macht soooo viel Spaß!!
Time to Dress up!
EN • First of all it is fun to dress up and go Dirndl Shopping. As a fashion blogger the outfit was one of the very first concerns when attending the Oktoberfest. I remember, back then I did a lot of research and eventually decided to buy my dirndl at Krüger Dirndl. I just love the quality of their dresses. The material is partly silk and the Dirndl has a lot of small, cute details such as pearls and embroidery. When you look at the pictures very closely you’ll notice that my friend and I wear the same dress in a different color combination. Later on I went to one of Munich’s various outlets to buy the “add-ons” such as the blouse, matching jewellery and the bag.
Fun fact: You ALWAYS buy the Dirndl one if not two sizes smaller than your normal outfits.
DE • Jaaa das richtige Dirndl ist wichtig und es macht so viel Spaß Dirndl Shopping zu betreiben. Ich kann mich noch erinnern, dass ich wirklich lange gesucht habe, bis ich das richtige für mich gefunden hatte. Am Ende habe ich mich dazu entschieden, bei Krüger Dirndl einzukaufen, weil mich Qualität und Details der Kleider überzeugt haben. Das Material ist teilweise Seide und die Perlen und Stickerei ist einfach wundschön. Meine Freundin und ich tragen auf den Bildern das gleiche Kleid nur in verschiedenen Farbkombinationen. Meine Bluse, Tasche und Schmuck habe ich in einem der Dirndl Outlets in München gekauft.
Schon gewusst? Dirndl kauft man IMMER eine oder zwei Größen kleiner. Nur dann sitzen sie richtig.
Have the right timing at the Oktoberfest
EN • Last year when I attended the Oktoberfest I got the feeling that it is all about the right timing. If you already come in the early morning, you will get the chance to have perfect seats at a nice table in the tend of your choice. We went there the first day of the Oktoberfest and experienced the opening ceremony and the tapping of the barrel. Also, there is so much to see that you will need the whole day to experience everything.
DE • Als ich letztes Jahr auf dem Oktoberfest war, hatte ich das Gefühl, dass das richtige Zeitmanagement darüber entscheidet, ob man eine gute oder schlechte Erfahrung dort macht. Wir sind schon gleich früh morgens dort gewesen und haben einen guten Platz in dem Zelt bekommen, das wir uns vorab ausgesucht hatten. So konnten wir zum Beispiel den Anstich miterleben. Außerdem gibt es so viele verschiedene Aktivitäten außerhalb der Zelte. Früh zu kommen lohnt sich also in jedem Fall.

- This goes without further ado: Drink beer! Not too much and not too less.
- Bring enough cash! There is no opportunity to pay with card, and the ATMs on the festival area hight charge high fees. Also, Oktoberfest with no money isn’t fun, one beer costs around 11,50€ but calculate also for food, and fairground rides. An amount of 100€ to 150€ should be fine, maybe more when you are a guy and less if you are a girl 😉
- Dance on the benches – that’s actually what people do! At some point everyone stands up and the whole event becomes a giant party. So relax and enjoy a super fun time.
- Try the food! There is a huge variety of different traditional German dishes. And I love almost all of them, my personal favourites are Weißwurst or Obazda.
- Don’t upset the waitress… Waitresses expect to receive a tip. At least a little bit. If you tip them, they might not come back to serve you your next beer.
- Expect queues everywhere. This being said, you should plan your timings carefully.

- Das muss ich eigentlich nicht erwähnen aber: Trinkt auf jeden Fall Bier .. 1, 2, 3 Maß gehörten zu den Wiesn einfach dazu!
- Bring genug Bargeld mit aufs Oktoberfest. In den Zelten kann man nicht mit Karte bezahlen und das Oktoberfest ohne Geld ist nicht wirklich spaßig. Ein Bier kostet 11,50€ (Stand 2018) man sollte aber auch noch Essen und Preise für Fahrgeschäfte kalkulieren.
- Tanz auf den Bänken! Es gibt einen Zeitpunkt in den Zelten, da schwenkt die Stimmung von verhalten zu ausgelassen um und alle steigen auf die Bänke und tanzen. Für mich was das eines der Highlights.
- Die Bedienung sollte man auf keinen Fall verärgern! Sonst sitzt man schnell auf dem Trockenen oder .. vor dem Zelt. Deshalb: immer freundlich sein, und reichlich Trinkgeld geben.
- Geht nicht zu spät auf die Toilette… die Schlange wartet schon und das kann wirklich Stunden dauern!
