DE • Am vergangenen Wochenende bin ich in Sitges aufgewacht. Sitges ist eine schöne kleine Küstenstadt, die nur eine 40-minütige Zugfahrt von Barcelona entfernt liegt. Wir kamen am Samstag Morgen an, sind über Nacht geblieben und am Sonntag wieder abgereist.  Es war toll, einfach mal für eine Weile zu verschwinden. Wir haben die Stadt mit all ihren kleinen Gassen erkundet. Auf diese Art und Weise haben wir kleine Design- und Antiquitätenläden, versteckte Restaurants und schöne Ecken voller Dekorationen oder Blumen entdeckt. Nur eine kurze Fahrt von Barcelona entfernt gibt es viele Orte, die es wert sind, erkundet zu werden.

EN • The past weekend I woke up in Sitges, Catalunya. A beautiful small town you will reach after a 40-minute train ride driving down the coast from Barcelona. We arrived one morning, stayed the night and left the next evening. To me it felt like a long getway to just disappear for a while. We explored the town and got lost in all the small streets. So I discovered things like little design or antique shops, hidden restaurants with amazing Spanish food and beautiful corners full of decorations or flowers. There are many places just a short ride away from Barcelona worth exploring. Quality time by the pool

DE • Ich liebe es zu planen aber diesmal bin ich bewusst ganz ohne Plan los gezogen. Mein Vorsatz war lediglich jede Minute in Sitges zu genießen. Spontan zu bleiben und sich nicht festzulegen nimmt den Stress heraus. Wir hatten ein Hotel in der belebten Innenstadt von Sitges. So konnten wir immer spontan entscheiden ob wir die Gassen erkunden oder einen Mittagsschlaf am Pool einlegen wollten.

EN • I love to plan things in advance but this time I went without a plan and just the resolution to enjoy every minute of this weekend trip to Sitges . So I did not plan any activity and stayed spontaneous (I can recommend that!) We booked a nice hotel directly in the vibrant city center of Sitges. This way we always had the choice between going out and napping by the pool.

Good Spanish Food

DE • Nach unserer Ankunft haben wir dieses kleine Restaurant mit dem blauen Innenhof  entdeckt. Der perfekte Ort für ein leckeres Mittagessen. Während dieses Wochenendes habe ich Tapas, Wein und Meeresfrüchte genossen. Könnt ihr glauben dass ich vorher noch nie so wirklich Muscheln gegessen habe?

EN • After our arrival we found a small restaurant for lunch next door from our hotel. It had this this beautiful private garden space. I spent these days with tapas, wine and seafood. Would you believe that I’ve never properly tried muscles before?

Traditions of a Catalan small town

DE •” Wisst Ihr was das ist? ” Als wir die Frage hörten, drehten wir uns um und sahen einen alten Mann hinter uns. Er erklärte, dass es sich bei diesen Fliesen um Preise handelt, die ein Hausbesitzer beim jährlichen Blumenwettbewerb gewinnen kann. Jedes Jahr um den Feiertag “Fronleichnam” kommen die Bürger von Sitges zusammen, um bei der Dekoration von Blumenbildern auf den Straßen gegen einander anzutreten. Der Gewinner erhält eine Fliese zum Einbetten in die Fassade seines Hauses.

EN • “Do you know what they are?” We turned around as we heard the question and faced an old man standing behind us. He explained that these tiles are prizes a house owner can win in the annual flower competition. Every year around the holiday “Corpus Christi” the citizens of Sitges come together to compete in decorating pictures made of flowers on the streets. The winner receives a tile to embed into the facade of their house.

Vitamin Sea

DE • Den Sonntag Vormittag haben wir am Strand verbracht. Vor unserer Rückkehr nach Barcelona haben wir kurzerhand entschieden uns SUP Boards auszuleihen und die Stadt vom Wasser aus zu genießen. Gegen die Strömung nach draußen zu paddeln hat mir einen ganz schönen Muskelkater eingebracht.

EN • Sunday morning before going back to Barcelona we enjoyed the city views from the water. We spontaneously rented two SUP boards and paddled out. Gosh I can tell you this is more workout that I had expected and my muscles thanked me with a big muscle ache.

  Recharging…

DE • Manchmal braucht es keinen langen Urlaub um die Batterien wieder aufzuladen. Obwohl ich nur 24 Stunden in Sitges verbracht habe, hat sich dieser Kurztrip nach einem langen Urlaub angefühlt.

EN • Sometimes you do not need a long holiday but only a short getaway to recharge your batteries. Even though few just spent 24 hours, I would say that the weekend trip to Sitges felt like a long holiday.
