Luxury in Switzerland: Visit Zürich in Winter

EN • I spent the past two weeks in Zürich on a business trip. While I was occupied with my job during the weekdays, I tried to use my free time in the evenings and the weekend to discover more of this beautiful city. This included trying out some amazing restaurants and places. I have to say, Zürich in Winter is nothing but lovely.

DE • In den vergangenen zwei Wochen war ich in Zürich auf einem Businesstrip. Während ich tagsüber viel mit meiner Arbeit zutun hatte, hatte ich Abends und an den Wochenenden Zeit, die Stadt und die Umgebung zu erkunden. In diesem Beitrag möchte ich all die wunderschönen Orte, die leckeren Restaurants und die Besonderheiten, die ich gesehen habe, mit euch teilen.

A Sunday afternoon stroll trough Zürich in Winter

EN • If you visit Zürich in winter there is a lot to do! I started out with a Sunday afternoon stroll through the city center “Niederdorf”. Close by is the Zürich lake which is Zürichsee, Niederdorf, Lindenhof, Großmünster, I discovered the Bahnhofsstraße

DE • Auch im Winter kann man in Zürich eine Menge sehen und erleben. Ich habe damit begonnen, die Stadt bei einem Sonntagsspaziergang zu erkunden. Es gibt so super süße Ecken, wie die Bahnhofsstraße, die Innenstadt “Niederdorf”, den Lindenhof, das Großmünster und natürlich den wunderschönen Zürichsee.

Incredibly good food – Restaurants I loved

Echo

EN • The restaurant Echo in the Marriot Hotel is a real insider tipp. The authentic Swiss restaurant was the place where I had the first cheese fondue in my life. Spoiler Alert: I LOVED IT! Apart from the delicious food you will find very a beautiful Swiss Interior design –  Theres even a cabinet of a gondola in the room.

DE • Das Restaurant Echo im Marriot Hotel war ein wirklicher Insider Tipp. Ich hätte das nie gefunden! Serviert wird echte Schweizer Küche und ich habe dort mein erstes Käsefondue gegessen. Ein Traum! Auch die Inneneinrichtung ist super schön. Da steht sogar die Kabine einer Gondel im Raum.

Kai Sushi

EN • As I am a sucker for sushi, I celebrated my birthday at Kai Sushi, one of the best sushi places in town if you ask the locals. The quality of the food is outstanding!

DE • Da ich Sushi über alles Liebe, war ich an meinem Geburtstag abends bei Kai Sushi essen. Aus zuverlässiger Quelle weiß ich, dass Kai einer der besten Sushiläden in der Stadt ist. Die Qualität der Gerichte ist außerordentlich.

Belvoirpark

EN • Belvoirpark is another insider tipp and very well known among the high society of Zürich. If you are looking for a classy lunch or dinner, this is the restaurant to go! They serve all the classics of the Swiss cuisine.

DE • Der Belvoirpark ist unter bei der Zürcher High Society hoch gehandelt. Dieses wunderschöne, klassische Restaurant ist perfekt für eine besondere Gelegenheit. Das Essen dort ist unbeschreiblich.

Sprüngli

EN • The famous chocolate brand Sprüngli is from Switzerland. No wonder that the flagship store also has a very stylish café where you can enjoy both, the Swiss chocolate AND coffee culture.

DE • Wenn man schon mal in der Schweiz ist, sollte man auch in den Genuss von Schweizer Schokolade kommen! Das moderne Café der berühmten Marke Sprüngli ist genau der richtige Ort dafür.

The Boathouse

EN • If you think it can’t get any fancier, I have to disappoint you! I saved a real gem for the end: The Boathouse. A short cab ride away from the city center you can find this very chic and private five star hotel. It is directly at the lake, features an amazing view and very good food.

DE • Wenn ihr gedacht habt, dass es nicht mehr schöner geht, lagt ihr falsch! Das Beste kommt zum Schluss: The Boathouse. Dieses elegante, kleine 5-Sterne-Hotel liegt nur eine kurze Taxifahrt vom Stadtzentrum entfernt. Es liegt direkt am Zürichsee. Das Essen ist super lecker und man hat einen atemberaubenden Blick über den See.

Die Waid

EN • The restaurant “Die Waid” is another place where you can enjoy the view over Zürich. I went there in one of my first evenings for a drink and loved the view.

DE • Das Restaurant “Die Waid” ist der perfekte Ort für ein Abendessen oder einen After-Work Drink mit einer tollen Aussicht über die Stadt.

Relax and enjoy the view

EN • Time to relax! After having a lot of meetings during the week, there was nothing better than spending some time in the Spa. Especially if you visit Zürich in winter, this specific spa is a MUST! Back in the times it was a brewery. I loved that it still had the design of the brewery mixed with a luxury spa. My personal highlight was  out in the warm water of the rooftop pool while enjoying the breathtaking view over Zürich by night.

DE • Zeit zum Entspannen! Was ist die einzige Sache nach der man sich nach einem anstrengenden Tag im Büro sehnt? Richtig! Entspannung. Und es gibt in ganz Zürich dazu wahrscheinlich keinen besseren Ort, als dieses Thermalbad. Hier wurde eine alte Brauerei in ein Luxuxspa umgewandelt. Das Ergebnis kann sich wirklich sehen lassen. Mein persönliches Highlight war, bei kaltem Wetter im beheizen Dachterrassenpool zu baden. Dabei hat man einen tollen Blick über Zürich bei Nacht.

Best movie experience in Zürich

EN • Another highlight on this trip was that I went to the movies. In the cinema in Shilcity it is possible to book VIP Lounges where you have perfectly comfy couple seats as well as an own minibar with snacks and drinks such as champagne.

DE • Ein weiteres Highlight meiner Reise war definitiv das VIP Kino. Im Kino in Shilcity kann man Lougen reservieren. Dort hat man dann eigene, verstellbare super bequeme Sitze und eine Minibar. So kann man es sich während eines Films so richtig gut gehen lassen.

Where to stay “the perfect temporary home”

EN • During these two, exciting weeks I stayed at the Acasa Suites. Yes you read right! Suites! I picked this hotel for my long stay because you can book rooms with a small kitchen. That way I was able to have breakfast at “home”, to have a coffee whenever I liked and store things in a fridge.

DE • Während diesen zwei aufregenden Wochen bin ich im Hotel Acasa Suites untergekommen. Ja ihr habt richtig gelesen! Suites! Man hat die Möglichkeit zwischen einem normalen Zimmer und einer Suit mit Küche zu wählen. Für mich war das perfekt denn so konnte ich manchmal “Zuhause” essen, Kaffee kochen wann immer mir danach war und die ein oder andere Sache im Kühlschrank lagern.

EN •  I loved the hotel because of its amazing interior design. I instantly felt like home. Also there were a modern gym that I used almost every day and a free spa area with a sauna and hammam. It has also the perfect location as it is super close to the translation “Oerlikon” which is very close to the center.

DE • Außer den tollen Zimmern fand ich die Inneneinrichtung einfach wunderschön. Ich habe mich sofort wohl gefühlt. Das Hotel hat zudem noch ein eigenes Fitnessstudio und einen Spabereich mit Sauna und Dampfbad. Auch die unmittelbare Nähe zum Bahnhof Oerlikon war ein Plus.
