EN • I feel that we live in a time in which information and knowledge is of high importance. Therefore, I dedicate much time of my life to build the career of my dreams. Books are one of my favourite sources of inspiration. Especially biographies, stories of successful people, help me to see things from different persperctives. In this post I especially want to share three biographies of inspiring women I recently followed up with.
DE • Ich denke, dass wir in einer Zeit leben, in der Information und Wissen das höchste Gut ist. Deshalb verbringe meine Zeit gerne damit, meine Karriere weiter voran zu treiben und viele Bücher zu lesen. Vor allem Biografien, Erfolgsgeschichten von Menschen unserer Zeit faszinieren mich. In diesem Post möchte ich 3 Biografien vorstellen, die mich in der letzten Zeit beschäftigt haben.
Girlboss: Sophia Amoruso
EN • Those of you who are familiar with the #Girlboss movement might have heard about Sophia Amoruso. I learned about her impressive story, the rise and fall of “Nasty Gal” and her community “Girlboss” when I watched the series ‘Girlboss’ on Netflix. However, as the series did not cover the full story, I went back to read the book and I loved it for all the helpful insights she provided on entrepreneurship in the fashion industry. To me, Sophia is one of the most inspiring women as she founded a community to help others pursue their dreams.
DE • Diejenigen von euch, die mit der #Girlboss-Bewegung vertraut sind, haben vielleicht schon von Sophia Amoruso gehört. Ich kam mit ihrer Geschichte das erste Mal in Berührung, als ich auf Netflix die Serie “Girlboss” gesehen habe. In der Serie geht es darum, wie Sophia ihre Marke “Nasty Gal” gründet. Die Serie deckte jedoch nicht die ganze Geschichte ab, also habe ich das Buch gelesen. Im Buch gibt Sophia viele Einblicke in ihr Leben als Unternehmerin in der Modebranche und ihre Community “Girlboss”, die Frauen dabei unterstützt, ihre unternehmerischen Pläne zu verwirklichen.
Becoming Michelle Obama
EN • When thinking about powerful and inspiring women of the world, to me Michelle Obama instantly comes to mind. Therefore, I really wanted to read her biography Becoming Michelle Obama. I’m not quite through the book yet and I can recommend it anyway. Do you know that when you read a book and halfway know that the rest will be exciting, too? Well, no wonder the story of a black girl growing up in Chicago, idolizing her mother and becoming the First Lady of the United States of America sounds promising from the start.
DE • Wenn ich über erfolgreiche und inspirierende Frauen nachdenke, fällt mir sofort Michelle Obama ein. Deshalb wollte ich ihre Biografie Becoming Michelle Obama unbedingt lesen. Ich bin mit dem Buch noch nicht ganz durch und kann es trotzdem schon empfehlen. Kennt ihr das, wenn ihr ein Buch lest und schon nach der Hälfte wisst, dass der Rest auch spannend sein wird? Nun ja.. wen wundert es, die Geschichte von einem schwarzen Mädchen das in Chicago aufwuchs, die ihre Mutter bewunderte und dann zur First Lady der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika wurde, das klingt von vornherein schon vielversprechend.
Overnight Success: Maria Hatzistefanis
EN • I first learned about Maria Hatzistefanis on Instagram. I love her inspiring feed and wanted to know more about her, especially because she founded her own very successful business. Her book the How to be an Overnight Success provides the story of her cosmetics brand Rodial. If you’re interested in a sneak peek into Maria’s story, this Forbes Article might be of interest for you.

Ich folge ihr vor allem, weil sie ihr eigenes, sehr erfolgreiches Business gegründet hat und mich ihre Erfolgsgeschichten interessiert hat. What to learn from inspiring women
EN • Finally I have to say, there is one thing that all these inspiring books have in common. The reader gets the feeling that everything is possible as long as you stick to your goals.
DE • Schussendlich muss ich sagen, dass diese Bücher in meinen Augen eines gemeinsam haben. Der Leser bekommt den Eindruck, dass alles möglich ist, solange man nur am Ball bleibt, seine Träume niemals aufgibt und immer weiter dafür arbeitet.

Liebe Miri, danke für deine Überlegungen und die interessanten Buchempfehlungen – ich finde es total toll, dass hier nicht nur der Erfolg, sondern auch der teilweise oft harte Weg dahin beschrieben wird. Vielfach sehen die Menschen ja nur das Endergebnis und sind darauf neidisch; sie bedenken nicht, welchen Aufwand, welche harte Arbeit, ja welche Hartnäckigkeit und welcher Ehrgeiz und Mut dahinterstecken, um erfolgreich zu werden. Darum finde solche Biografien auch motivierend.

Ich freue mich sehr, dass dir dieser Post gefallen hat! Es stimmt, die harte Arbeit die nunmal vor jedem Erfolg steht, wird oft nicht gesehen. Am Ende wundern sich dann immer alle, wie jemand so erfolgreich werden konnte und meinen es basiere rein auf Glück und Zufall. Diese Biografien haben mich deshalb ganz besonders inspiriert. I have so much respect for Sophia, it’s such a shame how things ended up for her and Nasty Gal though because her story is so inspiring. I think I’m the only woman on earth who read and didn’t enjoy Becoming, and I’m not sure why I didn’t like it because I love Michelle Obama. I haven’t read Overnight Success but it sounds like a great read, I’ll definitely check that one out x

Yes I think exactly the same thing! However we all learn from mistakes or events that go wrong. Besides I love the fact that she founded the Girlboss community to help other women to reach their entrepreneurial goals! Interesting that you didn’t like Becoming, what was the reason you didn’t like it?

Vielen vielen Dank Dorie! Ich freue mich immer wenn ich deine Kommentare auf meinem Blog sehe! Jaa ich habe auch erst die Serie gesehen und dann eben das Buch entdeckt. Ich war wirklich überrascht als ich raus gefunden habe, dass alles auf einer wahren Geschichte beruht.

Erst einmal zu deinem wunderschönen Kleid, das schaut so entzückend aus und passt dir so gut und nun zu den Büchern. Ich liiebe es zu lesen und bin immer auf der Suche nach Lesenachschub, deshalb schonmal ein riesen Dankeschön für deine Tipps. Prinzipiell habe ich bisher eher sehr wenige Biografien gelesen, meist nur dann, wenn mich eine Person schon länger persönlich berührt hat, aber vielleicht sollte ich doch öfter über meinen Schatten springen, denn ich denke sehr wohl, dass manche Lebensläufe sehr inspirierend sein können. Ich freue mich sehr, dass dir mein Kleid gefällt liebe Mirli! Mir ging es mit Biografien genauso, ich weiß auch nicht genau warum eigentlich. Vielleicht fand ich das Leben von anderen irgendwie nicht so interessant. Aber jetzt habe ich eine richtige Biografien-Phase und finde sie überraschend inspirierend.
