EN • Let’s do some blogger talk! This post is the first one of the new category called “Blogger Tales”. I often get asked all kinds of questions about being a blogger. When I was starting out I had these questions, too! I wanted to learn how to fix my own website, how to take great pictures and edit them, and many, many other things. Back then, reading blogs of fellow bloggers and watching all kinds of YouTube tutorials helped me to build MeetMiri. This new category is dedicated to returning the favour by sharing my experiences and knowledge with you. I’ll start by sharing some valuable insights on how I get from the idea to the final picture.

DE • Heute gibt es mal einen Post der etwas anderen Art. Es ist der erste Post in der neuen Kategorie “Blogger Tales”, in der sich alles ums Thema Bloggen drehen wird. Ich bekomme oft die unterschiedlichsten Fragen zu meinem “Blogger-Dasein” gestellt. Als ich “MeetMiri” gegründet habe, hatte ich auch haufenweise Fragen. Ich wollte wissen, wie man eine eigene Webseite erstellt, welche Kamera die Beste fürs Bloggen ist, wie man Bilder bearbeitet und viele, viele andere Dinge. Hilfreiche Posts von anderen Bloggern und YouTube Videos haben mir die Antworten auf all meine Fragen geliefert und nur so konnte ich “MeetMiri” aufzubauen. Jetzt ist es ist an der Zeit, meine Erfahrungen zu teilen und vielleicht kann ich ja dem Ein oder Anderen ein paar hilfreiche Tipps geben.

Things I consider to get from the idea to the final picture

Expressing my style

EN • To me fashion blogging is about expressing own my style. I am passionate about creating and styling outfits and I only wear looks I feel 100% comfortable with. Of course, I do follow trends but I make sure to follow only the ones I really like and try to create my own versions of it.

In a nutshell: Wear what you love!

DE • Für mich geht es beim Bloggen darum, meine eigenen Styles zu kreieren und zu teilen. Ich trage nur Outfits, in denen ich mich zu hundert Prozent wohl fühle. Natürlich folge ich auch gerne aktuellen Trends, aber nur denen, die zu mir passen und mit denen ich mich identifizieren kann.

Tipp: Trage einfach, was dir gefällt!

Using Sources of Inspiration

EN • No, Bloggers are not creative 24/7! I mean, I do have those days when I spread creativity and new ideas, but there are days when I don’t. But don’t worry, there are so many sources of inspiration out there. I get mostly inspired by movies, series, and other creators via Instagram or Pinterest.

In a nutshell: If you run out of ideas get inspired by movies, series and the web. 

DE • Als Blogger hat man nicht immer nur kreative Phasen. Natürlich habe ich diese Tage, an denen ich vor Ideen und Kreativität einfach nur so sprühe. Dann habe ich aber auch wieder Tage, an denen einfach nichts zusammen passen will. Das ist aber halb so wild! Ich lasse mich dann einfach von Filmen, Serien oder anderen Kreativen auf Instagram oder Pinterest inspirieren.

Tipp: Wenn du mal eine unkreative Phase hast, lass dich einfach von Filmen, Serien oder online inspirieren.

How I find (and memorize) the perfect locations

EN •  When I plan a photoshoot in a city where I live for a longer period of time, I use the maps app on my phone to pin a needle, to find that spot again. When travel I use Instagram und Google to look up the best spots in advance (like I did in this Madrid post). This ways I make sure that I visit all the epic spots and take nice pictures along the way.

In a nutshell: Walk the streets with your eyes wide open and you’ll discover beautiful backgrounds! 

DE • Wenn ich meine Shootings in einer Stadt plane, in der ich mich länger aufhalte, dann benutze ich meistens die Maps-App auf meinem Handy, um überall dort, wo ich schöne Hintergründe entdeckt habe, eine Pinnadel zu setzen. Wenn ich eine Reise plane, dann benutze ich meistens Instagram und Google, um all die tollen Spots ausfindig zu machen. So stelle ich sicher, dass ich all die wunderschönen Orte zu sehen bekomme und dabei noch ein paar tolle Bilder machen kann (wie in diesem Post über Madrid).

Tipp: Haltet eure Augen einfach offen, wenn ihr unterwegs seid, dann werdet ihr tolle Hintergründe für eure Fotos finden.

Mood boards and Notebooks

EN • Notebooks and mood boards (on Pinterest and paper ones) are my best friends when it comes to the creative process. I simply write down any idea, location, outfit, topics I want to talk about. This creative mess results sooner or later in my content plan, but this is a whole other topic. Sometimes I have an idea for a photoshoot in mind but the conditions aren’t right yet. My notebook helps me to memorise every detail until I make it from the idea to the final picture.

In a nutshell: Collect and write of all your ideas.

DE • Notizbücher und Mood-Boards (auf Pinterest und in Papierform) helfen mir dabei, meine Ideen zu sammeln und umzusetzen. Ich schreibe einfach alles auf, was mir in den Sinn kommt. Das können zum Beispiel Styling-Ideen, Orte oder Themen sein, die mich interessieren. Manchmal habe ich zum Beispiel fast alles für ein Shooting beisammen, aber es fehlen noch ein paar Details, das Wetter passt noch nicht, oder es hat gerade keiner Zeit mit mir zu shooten. Dann helfen mir meine Notizen dabei, keine tollen Ideen zu vergessen.

Tipp: schreib alles auf, was dir in den Sinn kommt.

About the storytelling in my pictures

EN • Street style is good, storytelling is better. When I started out I sticked to shooting my outfits and posting them. But as time went by I wanted to make them more realistic and authentic. My ways to achieve better pictures was to add more natural movement and asking the photographer to “capture a moment” rather than shooting a model. This moment could be you waving a friend, talking to someone in a window or looking at your watch. Just act normal, make different face expressions and do natural things when shooting street style. Add things you use on a daily basis –  for example a coffee mug, or a popcorn bucket when shooting in front of a cinema.

In a nutshell: Think of ways to look natural

DE • Street style ist gut, Storytelling ist besser. Als ich angefangen habe zu bloggen, sahen meine Bilder noch alle eher gestellt aus. Um sie authentischer und realistischer zu gestalten bitte ich jetzt meine Fotografen darum, Momente einzufangen, anstatt einfach ein statisches Model abzulichten. Dieser Moment könnte zum Beispiel zeigen, wie ich einem Freund winke, der gerade des Weges kommt, oder wie ich mich mit einer Oma im Fester unterhalte. Ich finde es immer gut, ein bisschen Bewegung rein zu bringen. Außerdem bin ich momentan ein Fan von Requisiten geworden. Dinge, die man im Alltag benutzt, eignen sich auch toll für Fotos. Ein Kaffeebecher in der Hand oder eine Popkorntüte, wenn man beispielsweise vor einem Kino Fotos macht, runden das Ganze noch etwas mehr ab.

Tipp: Finde Möglichkeiten natürlich und nicht gestellt zu wirken.
