Birthday post: Reviewing life once more

Here’s to 28!

EN • This weekend I turned 28 and I feel so happy and thankful for the place I am currently at: content and in balance with the life that I built for myself. I received so much love on this special day from both, my family and my friends. It was overwhelming to see who thought about me on that day.  

DE • Dieses Wochenende bin ich 28 geworden und ich bin so glücklich und dankbar dafür wie mein Leben gerade aussieht: Zufrieden und im Gleichgewicht mit dem Leben, das ich mir aufgebaut habe. Ich habe an diesem besonderen Tag so viel Liebe von meiner Familie und meinen Freunden erfahren. Es war überwältigend zu sehen, wer an diesem Tag an mich gedacht hat.

How did I spend my birthday?

EN • As I’m a January kid I always wished for summer birthdays and in the past two years I caught up on this desire with lots of sun beach time. Like last year I celebrated my birthday on the Canary Islands. Last year my friends surprised me with a private boot trip and this year my boyfriend surprised me with horseback riding in the desert in the morning. In the afternoon we had some beach time. Pizzas at the beach and then some sport: we SUP boarding with one of my best friends in the afternoon.

DE • Als Januarkind habe ich mir immer Sommergeburtstage gewünscht und diesen Wunsch habe ich mir in den letzten zwei Jahren erfüllt. Wie letztes Jahr habe ich meinen Geburtstag auf den Kanaren gefeiert.Vergangenes Jahr haben mich meine Freunde mit einer privaten Bootsfahrt überrascht. Dieses Jahr überraschte mich mein Freund mit einem morgendlichen Ausritt in der Wüste. Den Nachmittag haben wir mit Pizza am Strand verbracht und sind dann mit den SUP-Boards aufs offene Meer hinaus gepaddelt. 

Your life is about what you picture for yourself

EN • I view birthdays as moments where you review your life and as I grow older I feel that appreciating the things you have is one of the most important drivers for happiness and after all this is what we search for. Letting the people in your life know that you love them is important!

DE • Ich betrachte Geburtstage als perfekte Momente, in denen man das Leben Revue passieren lässt. Je älter ich werde, desto mehr habe ich das Gefühl, dass Wertschätzung für die Dinge, die man hat die Essenz von Glück ist. Schließlich Glück das, wonach wir alle suchen. Es ist wichtig, die Menschen in deinem Leben wissen zu lassen, dass du sie liebst!

EN • I took a moment and asked myself: Why am I so happy? The answer is rather simple: In short cause I do what I want. My life is not determined or decided upon by someone else. My life is self-determined. if I feel like flying somewhere I just do it. If I feel I seeing my family I just do it. I never search for reasons or excuses why a plan could not work. Instead I search for ways on how to make things happen. Confidence that things will work out well is another important driver here. And even if things sometimes go south I see it as a learning that I would not have made it I would not have tried.

DE • Ich habe mich an meinem Geburtstag gefragt, warum ich so glücklich bin. Die Antwort ist ziemlich einfach: Ich mache immer das wonach ich mich gerade fühle. Mein Leben ist selbstbestimmt. Wenn ich Lust habe zu reisen, tue ich es. Wenn ich mich nach meiner Familie sehne, besuche ich sie. Ich suche nie nach Gründen oder Ausreden, warum ein Plan nicht funktionieren könnte. Stattdessen suche ich nach Wegen, wie ich Dinge geschehen lassen kann. Die Zuversicht, dass es gut gehen wird, ist auch wichtig. Und selbst wenn die Dinge manchmal schief gehen, sehe ich es als als eine Erkenntnis, die ich nicht gewonnen hätte, hätte ich es nicht versucht.
