Best Places to Visit in the Austrian Alps: 48 Hours in Sölden

EN • Last weekend I spent 48 hours in Sölden. I arrived on Thursday night and left on Sunday morning. The landscapes are like straight out of a fairytale and I truly think that Sölden is one of the best places to visit in the Austrian Alps to visit during winter. Here is how I spent 48 hours in this beautiful place.

DE • Letztes Wochenende habe ich 48 Stunden in Sölden verbracht. Ich bin am Donnerstagabend angekommen und am Sonntagmorgen abgereist. Die Landschaften sind wie aus einem Märchen und ich denke wirklich, dass Sölden einer der besten Orte in den österreichischen Alpen ist, um im Winter zu besuchen. So habe ich 48 Stunden an diesem wunderschönen Ort verbracht.

The Stay: Bergland Hotel Sölden

EN • During my weekend getaway in the cute little mountain town in the Austrian Alps I stayed at the Bergland Hotel in Sölden. The hotel is an incredible place of relaxation. The rooms are spacious and the design cozy. Exactly how you would imagine a design and spa hotel in Austria.  I especially loved the 2200 square meter spa featuring an indoor pool, various saunas,  an outdoor jacuzzi and an outdoor pool. The Spa is sounded by big windows that give you an incredible panoramic view on the surrounding mountains.

DE • Während meines Wochenendtrips in das süße Bergstädtchen in den österreichischen Alpen habe ich im Bergland Hotel in Sölden übernachtet. Das Hotel ist ein unglaublicher Ort der Entspannung. Die Zimmer sind geräumig und das Design gemütlich. Genau so, wie Sie sich ein Design- und Wellnesshotel in Österreich vorstellen. Besonders gut hat mir das 2200 m² große Spa mit Innenpool, verschiedenen Saunen, einem Außenwhirlpool und einem Außenpool gefallen. Das Spa wird von großen Fenstern beschallt, die Ihnen einen unglaublichen Panoramablick auf die umliegenden Berge bieten.

Mountain calling: The Rettenbach Glacier

EN • When visiting one of the best places to visit in the Austrian Alps you need to take the gondola and go on top of the mountains! Standing on top of a glacier was an incredible experience as I had never been to a glacier before. First of all the view was just breathtaking and the snow a dream! On both days I went snowboarding in the morning and relaxed in the Spa of the Bergland Hotel afterwards.

DE • Wenn man schon ist Österreich ist, dann muss man aber auch wirklich auf die Berge rauf! Das geht am besten mit der Gondel. Auf einem Gletscher zu stehen ist eine tolle Erfahrung die ich vorher so noch nicht gemacht hatte. Vor allem weil der Ausblick einfach atemberaubend schön ist. An beiden Tagen war ich Vormittags snowboarden und am Nachmittag im Spa des Hotels entspannen.

What to wear in the mountains

The IceQ Restaurant: It’s all about the views!

EN • The IceQ restaurant is a star restaurant on top of the mountains. The food there is delicious and the views are even better. During our stay we had a lunch there. If you are visiting Sölden I do recommend you to book a table or have a drink on the outside terrace of this restaurant. Its just worth it!

DE • Das IceQ Restaurant ist ein Hauben Restaurant auf der Spitze einer der Berge. Das Essen dort ist einfach himmlisch und die Aussicht noch besser. Während unseres Aufenthalts haben wir dort einmal Mittag gegessen. Wenn ihr Sölden besucht dann kann ich das IceQ Restaurant wirklich empfehlen!

007 James Bond Elements

EN • If you are a 007 fan this place is for you: Sölden is not only one of the best places to visit in the Austrian Alps  for perfect snow and incredible ski/snowboarding experiences but also very well known from the 007 James Bond movie Spectre. On the mountains there are various spots you might have seen in the movie. In the IceQ Restaurant is a James Bond Museum and also the Bergland Hotel has a James Bond Suite where a scene of the movie was taken.

DE • Als 007 Fan kommt man in Sölden auf seine Kosten: Die Stadt ist nicht nur fürs Skifahren und die Schneebedingungen bekannt sondern auch weil einige Szenen im James Bond Film “Spectre” dort gedreht wurden. Um genauer zu sein im IceQ Restaurant, auf der Piste und einem Tunnel der die Pisten verbindet. Auch das Bergland Hotel hat eine James Bond Suite in der eine der Szenen gedreht wurde.
