Travel Diaries: Walhalla and Liberation Hall

EN • Last weekend a friend of mine and me took a trip to visit the Walhalla in Donaustauf, south Germany. This impressive monument (in the middle of nowhere) has been on my bucket list for a long time.

Off the bucket list: Walhalla

EN • The Walhalla is a sight in my home state Bavaria. However we typically we tend to fly to exotic destinations on the other side of the world before we travel and discover every bit of our home county (find more of my travels in this category). Now during the current situation I decided to change that and travel locally by car.

The Walhalla

EN • The Walhalla is an ancient hall of fame that honours personalities that shaped German history. Apart from that it’s just an impressive monument to visit, chill out and take a couple of pictures (obviously).

all you need to know

EN • How to get there: the monument is a by car or by bus. I imagine it difficult to get there by train as it truly is in the middle of nowhere. So there are no restaurants around. Why it’s worth a visit: the monument itself is beautiful and the you’ll have a breathtaking view over the river Donau. What was a downside: there are many visitors and I imagine, if travel restrictions are gone, there will be even more people.

Liberation Hall

EN • When we planned the trip, the liberation hall was not on out list. On that day we went to have lunch in Kehlheim, a beautiful city in near Donaustauf and Regensburg. When we entered the city we saw the liberation hall up on the hill and decided to pay a visit.

What is special about that place?

How to get there? the liberation hall is just 2km from Kehlheim. It’s possible to get there by car or with a shuttle bus. Why it’s worth a visit: I loved the liberation hall even more than the Walhalla cause there is more to discover. You can climb up stairs inside the hall and discover the different stories.  The huge angel statues and he builing itself  are very special. Also you’ll have view over the river Donau. Downside: no downsides, as this monument is less known than the Walhalla you won’t find too many visitors.

    Hi Miri,
supertolle Fotos!

Liebe Miri, was für traumhaft schöne Fotos.

I always try to fly to exotic locations as well but with the virus, we have been spending more time exploring our own country and honestly, Ive been loving it!
